ORSOLA MADDALENA CACCIA (1596-1676)

Osanna Andreasi (1449-1505), appartenente a una delle più illustri famiglie mantovane, fu terziaria domenicana, cioè una suora che viveva nella propria casa, la bella casa quattrocentesca con facciata di Luca Fancelli, tuttora esistente (e visitabile) in via Frattini 9. Amica e consigliera dei Gonzaga signori di Mantova, fu gratificata di visioni mistiche e si impegnò assiduamente in opere di carità. Per interessamento di Isabella d’Este fu beatificata da Leone X nel 1510.

Occasionalmente ella abitò anche nella casa di campagna sita a Carbonarola Po, minuscola frazione di Carbonara di Po (Mantova). Nella frazione avevano proprietà anche i nobili Agnelli; Scipione Agnelli, divenuto vescovo di Casale Monferrato, dedicò alla Beata la chiesa parrocchiale e fece eseguire il presente dipinto, collocandolo sull’altare maggiore della chiesa.

Osanna Andreasi (1449-1505), a member of one of Mantua's most illustrious families, was a Dominican tertiary, i.e. a nun who lived in her own home, a beautiful 15th-century house with a façade by Luca Fancelli, which still exists (and can be visited) at Via Frattini 9. A friend and advisor to the Gonzaga lords of Mantua, she was gratified with mystical visions and devoted herself assiduously to works of charity. Through the intercession of Isabella d'Este, she was beatified by Leo X in 1510.

She also occasionally lived in the country house located in Carbonarola Po, a tiny hamlet of Carbonara di Po (Mantua). The Agnelli nobles also owned property in the hamlet; Scipione Agnelli, who became bishop of Casale Monferrato, dedicated the parish church to the Blessed and had this painting made, placing it on the high altar of the church.
