Opere devozionali ad uso privato, mobili e richiudibili (per agevolarne il trasporto) ripiegando le parti esterne su quella centrale, con cornici e basamento intagliati in ricche forme decorative, talora impreziosite da intarsi bicromi. Simili opere erano in uso nel tardo Medio Evo, specie in età gotica quando fu celebre in tutta Europa la bottega degli Embriachi, attiva a Firenze e poi a Venezia nel XIII-XIV secolo. Devotional works for private use, movable and foldable (to facilitate transport) by folding the outer parts over the central part, with frames and base carved in rich decorative forms, sometimes embellished with two-colour inlays. Such works were in use in the late Middle Ages, especially in the Gothic period when the Embriachi workshop, active in Florence and then Venice in the 13th-14th centuries, was famous throughout Europe.
