La deposizione di Gesù dalla croce e poi nel sepolcro è uno dei temi ricorrenti (la sola collezione del Museo ne annovera altre tre) nell’attività di Bazzani, del quale è nota la spiccata sensibilità religiosa. Questa tela è pervenuta in condizioni non ottimali; forse anche per questo non appare all’altezza delle altre opere e ha fatto ipotizzare l’intervento di collaboratori.

The deposition of Jesus from the cross and then in the sepulchre is one of the recurrent themes (the Museum's collection alone includes three others) in the work of Bazzani, whose marked religious sensitivity is well known. This canvas arrived in a less than optimal condition; perhaps this is one of the reasons why it does not appear to be up to the standards of the other works and has led to speculation that collaborators were involved.
