Dall’oratorio della B. V. Maria del Canossa in Mantova.

Nel piccolo oratorio si trovava esposta sulla parete laterale, di fronte alla Deposizione, ora anch’essa al museo.
“La materia usurata e il drammatico luminismo” (F. Caroli), con quei drappi bianchi a contrasto con l’ombra della scena, denunciano queste opere come realizzate negli ultimi anni di vita dell’artista. Peraltro lo conferma la data di costruzione della chiesetta per la quale sono stati eseguiti, l’oratorio del Canossa più noto come Madonna del Terremoto, sito in piazza Canossa e affidato alla basilica di Sant’Andrea, aperta al culto dal 1759.

In the small oratory, it was displayed on the side wall opposite the Deposition, now also in the museum.

‘The worn material and dramatic luminism’ (F. Caroli), with those white drapes contrasting with the shadows of the scene, denounce these works as having been created in the last years of the artist's life. This is confirmed by the date of construction of the small church for which they were executed, the Canossa Oratory better known as the Madonna del Terremoto, located in Piazza Canossa and entrusted to the basilica of Sant'Andrea, open for worship since 1759.
