Dalla chiesa parrocchiale di San Barnaba in Mantova.

Il dipinto è stato realizzato su committenza dei Professori di Musica di Mantova componenti il “suffragio di Santa Cecilia”, un gruppo di fedeli che nell’Ottocento aveva sede presso la parrocchia di San Barnaba.
La santa martire (lo ricorda la palma retta dall’angioletto dietro di lei) regge uno spartito, con note casuali disposte su un tetragramma, a ricordare che è la patrona della musica e del canto sacro.
Recentemente, a mero titolo di curiosità, abbiamo comunque provato a trascrivere e ad eseguire le note del cartiglio musicale. Il risultato si può ascoltare qui sotto.

Saint Cecilia

From the parish church of San Barnaba in Mantua.

The painting was commissioned by the Mantuan Professors of Music who were members of the ‘suffrage of Saint Cecilia’, a group of the faithful who had their headquarters in the parish of San Barnaba in the nineteenth century.

The martyr saint (this is recalled by the palm held by the little angel behind her) holds a score, with random notes arranged on a tetragrammaton, as a reminder that she is the patron saint of music and sacred song.

Recently, merely out of curiosity, we nevertheless tried to transcribe and perform the notes of the musical scroll. The result can be heard below.
